Because that's what being depressed means: you're popping prescription pills to make you happier. You're altering your depressed self to make you feel happiness once in a while, to fight the urge of suicide.
The specialist tells you, "Maybe you're depressed." Maybe I am, but I never know for sure. Everybody has their good and bad days so do I. Why does having 'bad days' more often than 'good days' constitute depression? Of course, that's why these doctors spent years on end studying in post-secondary institutions: to answer the question 'why.'
Why. W-H-Y. It's a small, three-lettered word. It's used quite frequently in passing. Why are you doing that? It can also be pretty heavy-handed. Why am I here? For such a tiny, seemingly insignificant word, it can be used to ask quite important questions. Why? Most of the time, my answer is simple: I don't know.
